“Mommy, can I paint?”
This question was repeated at least 10x and the same response was given. “Yes, just wait please.”
When I was finally able to get to a place where they could paint, I instructed the kids to have a seat at the table. Did they sit down? Nope. I told them to have a seat at the table a few times before I shouted, “You asked me for something and I want to give you what you asked for, but you’re not doing what I said! You have to be obedient, it’s important.”
Immediately the Holy Spirit convicted me. “Tabitha, I want to give you what you’ve asked of me, but you need to do what tell you to in order for me to give you the desire of your heart. Obedience is key to receiving what I have for you.”
“Well what was the thing you told me to do that I’m not doing or haven’t done?” I asked.
You see the night before, I ran to Walmart for a few things and because I know how much the kids enjoy painting and it keeps them busy for a while, I grabbed a few projects we could do. So I already had in mind what they like to do and as a mom it’s my greatest joy to give them things they want. The hard part sometimes is giving them those things because they aren’t being obedient.
Sit down at the table and guess what? You’ll get what you asked for. But if your walking around asking me over and over or give up after having to wait for the right time, you’ll miss out on what you wanted so badly at one point.
While the kids painted, I walked downstairs briefly and I heard the Lord give me instruction. You want to know what my response was? Out loud I said, “Nope, I’m not doing that.” Hahah it’s not funny, but seriously. I can’t expect something from a 2 and 4 year old that me as a 34 year old isn’t willing to do. Walking in obedience is a daily choice. And remember, delayed obedience is still disobedience. I’m so thankful for the Lord’s patience with me!
If you want to know, yes I did the thing the Lord instructed me to after struggling with it for a bit. What it had to do with anything I’ve requested of the Lord, I have no idea, but that is none of my business. It’s my responsibility to step out in obedience and trust, knowing that God is directing my steps, working it all for my good.
